One fix for non-functioning SuperDrive Authored by: johnsawyercjs on Feb 24, '12 11:44:01PM You answer your own question: if someone isn't careful while using this cleaning method, they could break something in the optical drive and REALLY make the drive useless. Make sure the external optical drive is turned off and disconnected from your Mac. Insert the flat blade screwdrivers tip into the lip between the tray and the case of the drive. Gently lever the tray open. You may feel some resistance and the sound of gears moving within the drive.
